I made the deadline.  Maybe.

I completed the rough in time, turned it out at about 2800 words.  It is now around 3100 and will probably need about 500+ more to make it work.

So, dunno if I made the deadline.  Sucks.

From the feedback I received from my group, I realize that this story is a larger project than I initially  thought it'd be.  I went into it seeking to write out a snapshot of a place, and ended with a somewhat unrealistic portrayal of a person facing imminent death, and not getting changed enough by it.

This leads to my question of the day -- when facing complete realization that one is about to die, and then finds him/herself alive, how would that person be changed?

Can something like that even have an answer?

Will.

The whole...live each day to the fullest?

Yea, but that wouldn't fall into this story by it's nature. The character involved has to realize this in a few hours he is adrift in space without chance of rescue (so he feels). Certain things have to come out to flesh out the character here, and thatt's the point I am at with it.

Well, good luck, then.

Need all the luck I can get!

The deadline is 10-31. Should be able to edit it to a more acceptable level by then...

Maybe there's something in their life, some regret, that's been bothering them forever. They keep coming back to it, little by little, throughout the realization of death. Then they're alive, and they can fix or redo or do their regret. They can own their life as they've always wanted. They have the will and power they never had before to do that.

And that might just work in the scale of a short too. Character stories are so hard to tell in that format.

Could be a possibility. I may have already written in something I can build on to that type of theme.

Just an idea off the top of my head. I love writing stories like that, but it's really hard in a short to have enough room to do it right.

Mind if I friend you? You can't really see much of my LJ without that.

Go right ahead!

Can't have enough friends in this world, right?

besides, I appreciate other writers hooking up this way. Great way to see other viewpoints, find biblio for other autrhors work you may like to read, etc.
