Here's a very helpful note regarding the synopsis, thanks to JPSorrow (Joshua Palmatier). Some of you who are on OWW's yahoo group might recognise it. This info is very cool reading, and awesomely helpful!

I asked a bunch of published writers if they'd be willing to post a synopsis that they wrote for a book that actually sold, and a bunch were willing. So I organized it into a Plot Synopsis Project. It was so successful that there was a second run a few months later which I called Plot Synopsis Project II. In addition, I ran a Query Project, where a bunch of writers posted what they did for queries. In all of these, you'll see that there isn't a set standard for what you do, and in some cases the writer wrote about the fact that they didn't even use a synopsis or query to get sold. So it gives you some perspective and hopefully helps you either write them, or at least keep you from freaking out about them too much. We wrote them as blog entires on our blogs, or pages on websites, so I'll link you to my parts of the project and you can follow the links from there to the other authors' sites. Some of the pages may have been removed, and some of the links may not be current, but hopefully you'll find enough still active to help you out. Here are the links. I hope you find them helpful:
