[SIGNING] Douglas County Library's An Afternoon with Local Authors.

On February 7, 2009 I participated in a rather interesting event.

The curious amongst you may ask, what event? My answer would be: Douglas County Library's  "An Afternoon with Local Authors" event, in Minden, Nevada. It is a gathering of local authors, and this meeting included seven participants, each representing different areas of writing. Everyone here knows what I write - so, also included was a mystery novelist, a young (15! You go, girl!) poet, a local historian, a political satirist, a poet/self help, and an author with a pamphlet regarding assisting with Alzheimer patients. Over all, the variation in subjects made the event quite interesting

And no, I DIDN'T HAVE TO READ! Whoot!

Here I am, set up, proudly displaying three of the HRB volumes my stories are in:

My table was fairly slow - being the only short story SF writer, I didn't get too many stops. Mostly the mystery novelist, Todd Borg, got the traffic. His Tahoe-based mystery series, now up to 6 books, has a good local following. So, I, and I have to say most, of the others had moderate flow to our tables. I did sell two volumes, one each of Desolate Places and Ruins Extraterrestrial.

It was fun, and rather interesting to mill with the other writers at the event. Dunno if it is a regular thing, but I'd go again.

Cool, Will! I always like putting a face with the writer behind the words. :-)

They asked for a portrait photo for the event - now saved to be used as an icon.

It was really cool. I am intimidated by reading, but I do love the meeting other writers and the people who enjoy their (and my) work.

I like the sign over your head:

non- -non

very dada.

That's actually (I think) "non - ion" (for fict ion)

But yea, those partials are funny.

Sounds truly cool - whenever I read about one of these events, I wish I lived in the US or the UK!
