Now that I've applied the applicable suggestions from all the great crits, I went to outside for my final pre-subbing test. I ask a friend who is not a writer to read it, and to pass it to his wife. With this, I can judge whether it is coherent. I ask for any, ANY questions that my story brings to mind. The more questions that arise from the read the more work I have to do on the story still. This one only got the same opinion that my group gave me -- it's a good story. And, his wife added that it was very entertaining, as well. My satisfaction level is still high with this one.
The next is nearing 1000 words, and will be a bit smaller than the first. As with the last one, it is coming to screen on its own, and going in a direction I never believed would come out in one of my stories. Once again, I am riding my subconscious feed. And since each time I've written this way the result is great, I think that is how it will continue! I can't complain -- not at all.
Personally, I think that this is the direction that people should go in their writing. With me, I used to self-analyze everything coming out. I rarely wroe to completion when I was in that stage. Of course this may just be an individual thing....
