Pluto has been reprieved!  No longer a planet, it has been promoted to it's own catagory!  Read it here;

Meet the Plutoids ...

Instead of adding Eris as a tenth planet, they remove Pluto and group them differently.  Poor guys.

Nice choice. They should stick with that and forget that anyone ever mentioned the words "dwarf planet".

x: What is a dwarf planet?
y: It's something too small to be a planet.
x: Then why do you call it a dwarf planet? Doesn't that mean it's a small planet?
y: (gibberish)

Years of confusion to come.

Yea, but now I have a story to go update (in case of reprint, see...).

I'm personally offended by this; stripping Pluto of planethood. Astronomers take their cataloguing too far sometime. I think Pluto should've remained a planet. It is a planet.

True, and I've wondered what the big deal was in being against adding planets. Eris is larger than Pluto. And they feel there are others out there the same. What if they find one the size of Mercury or Mars? They gonna gap the system or something?

Exactly. And what if they find something the size of Earth?

Must be money involved somewhere...

Or prestige. Scientists/academicians can be worst than politiciann. It's one of the reason I left research.

True.

However, we can rest with the fact that none of it matters at all to Pluto and its neighbors.

It's better than the alternative, I guess.

Hell, I still feel bad for Ceres, and it was demoted long before I was born.

Poor Ceres...

Perhaps it's an in-system Plutoid now...

Yeah, Ceres too. But at least she's queen of the belt.
