So, I go back to this and answer with my current writing in mind. Bye, bye, Hal, I am now:

I am:
Arthur C. Clarke
Well known for nonfiction science writing and for early promotion of the effort toward space travel, his fiction was often grand and visionary.

Which science fiction writer are you?

I got Ursula LeGuin.

William Gibson.

Yeah, I can see where that comes from, although I'd much rather be Philip K Dick!

A very cool writer to be! The man was smart, insightful and had a sense of humor!

I am:
Kurt Vonnegut
For years, this unique creator of absurd and haunting tales denied that he had anything to do with science fiction.

One editor commented that a story of mine was a combination of Gibson, Reynolds, and Sterling. At that time, I hadn't read anything from Gibson.

I'd like to write like Reynolds, Asher, and Sheffield. Some day.

Cool that you got Clarke. My favorite author. I'm Gregory Benford (another favorite of mine). I imagine answers that led to Benford are very similar to those for Clarke.
